Thailand

Thailand

I flew from Kathmandu, Nepal to Chiang Mai, Thailand in September 2017. I felt an unexpected nervousness sitting in the hotel waiting for my taxi. The group I had spent over a week with had gone and I was on my own. I had booked my solo trip to Thailand months in advance without even thinking about going solo.

The nervousness quickly dissipated and within a matter of hours, I arrived at the Chiang Mai airport ready and eager to begin the next leg of my big adventure. I was greeted with such warmth, and not just the climate. I found the people and culture to be so warm and kind. I felt at home right away. After dropping my belongings I quickly found a $7 one hour Thai massage and followed it up with a pedicure. Quite a treat after over a week of hard but meaningful manual labor.

After several days in Chiang Mai I booked a flight to Krabi, where I then took a bus and boat to Tonsai, a beachfront in the Krabi Province. The water, the coast, the limestone karsts were all exactly as I imagined based on the my endless google searches in advance of the trip. Only better.

The big takeaway from my trip to Thailand is how easy it was to navigate, how kind and helpful the locals were, and how breathtakingly beautiful the country is. Not to mention the cuisine.
